Our advisory team
David James is the founder of GEM Planning. He is the most senior of GEM’s planners and has been working in the industry since 1999. He believes that personalized service is essential when matching clients with the right financial security products and services. His life’s work has been built on helping people achieve their goals. For over 30 years prior to and whilst building his financial planning career, David worked as a professional swimming coach. His greatest enjoyments in life have always been centred around helping others to achieve their goals. David studied successfully as a mature aged student and achieved his Certified Financial Planner (CFP) status in 2004 and currently studying for his Master’s in Financial Planning. David has been married to his wife Gaynor for over 35 years and together they have two boys. David and Gaynor became Grandparents for the first time in 2019 and in the blink of an eye now have three gorgeous Granddaughters. David is an active Life Member of the Grange SLSC and continues to have roles in the continuous development of this club. He also participates in the sporting side of Surf lifesaving and has been involved as an official and member of the Surf Sports Advisory Board.
Simon James has been a part of GEM Planning since 2008. In 2009 he became a general insurance adviser at GEM General Insurance Services Pty Ltd and provided advice on general insurance products for two years. He moved on to become a Financial Advisor at the beginning of 2012. As of 2018, Simon became a director and is one of GEM Planning’s most senior advisors. One of the most important lessons that he has learned over his career is understanding the needs of clients and recognizing that everyone’s economic and life situation is unique. Simon shows great empathy with his clients and is proud to be a part of a company that provides personalized service. He has a Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning and currently studying for his Master’s in Financial Planning. Simon is married and shares his life with Laura, their daughter Rosa, their son Rafael, and their two dogs Diego and Eve. They enjoy an active life of traveling, spending time with friends, and being outdoors. Simon is also a patrolling and competitive member of the Grange SLSC which he has been involved in for over 20 years.
Kira Wilson commenced work at GEM Planning in 2009. Kira was introduced to GEM as part of a School Based Apprentice Program. Kira excelled at combining work and school and went on to win the South Australia School Based Apprentice of the Year Award. Kira continued to study, completing a Certificate III in Business Administration and her Advanced Diploma in Management. Now Office Manager and Senior Paraplanner, Kira is the link that holds both the Administration team and the Financial Planners together. She understands that clients are the most important part of GEM Planning, and that personalised service is essential. To best achieve this Kira also holds an Advanced Diploma in Financial Services and is continuing to study for her Master’s in Financial Planning. Outside of work Kira and her Partner have been together since 2008 and have two boys who are now both at school. Her family are all proud Port Adelaide Football Club supporters.
Jason James is a senior Financial Advisor and has been a director of GEM Planning since 2018. He has a background in International trade with a strong understanding of global economics. Jason has a Bachelor of Economics and Finance from The University of Adelaide, as well as a Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning. He is currently undertaking further study to complete a Master’s in Financial Planning. Jason is well-organised, and able to keep multiple priorities in mind whilst aiming for the best outcome for his clients. He is well supported by a team of administration, group benefits, and investment product specialists, whose teamwork and professionalism help him build long-term relationships with his clients. Outside of work his interests include swimming and surf lifesaving. He is a Patrolling member (and past Club Captain) of the Grange Surf Life Saving Club, and supporter of the Port Adelaide Football Club. Jason shares his life with his wife and two young daughters.
Vince Fratamico is a Financial Adviser at GEM Planning, who specialises in retirement planning & Centrelink related services. He commenced work with GEM in 2017 as part of a School-Based Apprentice program and was rewarded that year winning South Australian School Based Apprentice of the year. He immediately shone as a staff member by demonstrating good old-fashioned hard work and dedication in his roles. His attention to detail, effective communication skills, and great empathy are symbols of his appreciation by his clients, Vince is mature beyond his years.
Vince holds a Certificate III in Business Administration, Advanced Diploma in Financial Planning and is currently studying for his Graduate Certificate in Financial Planning. Outside of work, Vince plays Football and is a sports fanatic, where he is a supporter of the Adelaide Crows.
